Golf in Ayrshire
It's Wednesday 17 October 1860... a small group of individuals are making their way towards the sandhills of Prestwick...
They are about to make history...
As the first ever round of The Open Golf Championship was played at Prestwick, Ayrshire almost 150 years ago, who would have thought that it would still stand today as one of the leading events in the world's sporting calendar.
The competition may have changed over the years but golf continues to grow in popularity and The Open, as it is now known, continues to return to Ayrshire, the home of Open Golf.
Indeed Ayrshire, often referred to as Scotland's Golf Coast is steeped in golf tradition with many of its clubs and courses having their own significant place in history.
Scotland's World Class Golf Resorts
Google’s massively global infrastructure now employs a proprietary system that automatically moves and replicates loads between its mega data centers when traffic and hardware issues arise.
The distributed technology was first hinted at — in classically coy Google fashion — during a conference this summer, and Google fellow Jeff Dean has now confirmed its existence in a presentation (PDF) delivered at a symposium earlier this month.

Royal Troon
For the first sixty years of The Open’s history, the Championship’s visits to south west Scotland were confined to Prestwick, Troon’s next-door neighbour. In 1923, all that changed: The Open came to Troon for the first time, and since then it has become a regular venue having hosted the Championship on eight occasions.

Scotlands West Coast Golf Links
From the first tee at Irvine Bogside to the eighteenth on The Ailsa Course is a journey of only 30 miles or 50 kilometres, but to travel it playing any or all of Scotland’s West Coast Golf Links will ensure that it’s a journey that will last long in the memory.
